It makes sound business sense for us to address our social and environmental performance as well as our economic outcomes. This thinking is evident in the businesses that deliver our insurance products. 

IAG is an international general insurance group, with operations in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Asia. Generating approximately AUD $7.5 billion in premiums each year, IAG insures more than AUD $900 billion worth of property and employs around 15,000 people in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Asia.

In New Zealand, our operations are spread across three distinct trading channels – NZI, State and Business Partners. We have 2,000 employees and a nationwide network of call centres, sales centres and branches.

NZI 

NZI delivers insurance products through its broker network. It makes community and the environment central to the way it does business.

NZI won Insurer of the Year again in the 2007 General Insurance Industry Awards. This coincided with NZI being the first New Zealand insurer to launch sustainable insurance products and offer environmental incentives to their customers to ‘go green’.

NZI has a number of high-profile sponsorships in the business arena including TV ONE’s dedicated business programme, NZI Business. It also plays its part in sport through sponsorship of the New Zealand International Sevens tournament.

State 

State sells insurance direct to its customers and, as their new advertising campaign says: with State, ‘Help just Happens’. This is State’s commitment to helping to put things right for our customers.

State celebrates with communities throughout New Zealand in its sponsorship of our five domestic cricket competitions and men and women’s teams.

State has partnered with the Worldwide Fund for Nature – New Zealand (WWF-NZ) to increase New Zealanders’ understanding of climate change and to encourage individual action.

Business Partners

We underwrite insurance for some of New Zealand’s leading financial institutions, including ASB and BNZ. We extend our product range through four specialist brands:

  • Mike Henry Travel Insurance handles our travel insurance through retail travel agents,
  • NAC Insurance is our specialist underwriter of high-risk motor insurance, from high- end sports cars to motorbikes,
  • Swann Insurance (NZ) is our warranty and consumer credit insurance provider, specialising in motor vehicle and payment protection insurance products, and
  • Through DriveRight we offer mechanical breakdown insurance via motor vehicle dealers.
Lantern 

Lantern is our new brand offering NZI products and services direct to customers. It focuses on providing personal insurance services to customers with more sophisticated lifestyle needs.

And there’s more…

We have shareholdings in:
  • Loyalty New Zealand Limited (25% owned), which administers the Fly Buys loyalty programme,
  • First Rescue and Emergency (NZ) Ltd, operating as First Assistance (50% owned), which manages State Roadside Rescue,
  • NZI Assist, our vehicle breakdown service, and
  • Insurance brokerage Anthony Runacres (51% financial interest).
